Osnabrück 1636, under Mayor Dr. Wilhelm Peltzer, an epidemic-like witch-hunt rages. In the months of May, June and July of the year 1636, a total of 34 women were arrested on the orders of the council in Osnabrück on suspicion of witchcraft. Up until then, only women from the lower class were accused of witchcraft. However, for the first time in the month of July, there was a case where a woman was not from the so-called lower class. During an ongoing trial against the pharmacist's wife, Anna Ameldung from Osnabrück, a law student gets closer to the suspicion it could be a case of innocence. The virtuoso student Jakob, is confident that something is not right in this case. To avoid causing a stir in front of the council and Mayor Dr. Wilhelm Peltzer, he sends his completely clueless and inconspicuous first-year students to Anna A's house to look for evidence and prove her innocence. The description of the case is based on a genuine report by Heinrich Ameldung about which there is no doubt.
