About the escape room

For many decades, the legendary alchemist Benediktus has been experimenting in the cellar of a former Franciscan monastery. He developed formulas and spells, summoning spirits and foreign powers. Now, as he grows older and weaker, his work is turning against him with all its might. Benediktus is old - unbelievably old. His powers are fading, his spirit is getting tired. His knowledge threatens to be lost forever! For the three magical crystals, which the alchemist needs for the production of his elixir of life, have disappeared without a trace. However, it is possible that Benediktus does not recognize the formulas that he once developed and which indirectly led him to the stones. Benediktus urgently needs your help! Descend into the basement of the monastery and immerse yourself in the magic of alchemy. Search the mysterious workshop, solve exciting puzzles, coax important hints out of the talking raven, and find the three life-sustaining crystals. Benediktus will thank you - and that for several lifetimes!

Overview of artificial intelligence

AIAtmosphere and set design are consistently praised, as are the intro and the well-measured support from the game master. Many highlight parallel puzzling and a smooth gameplay flow. At the same time, you can feel the room’s age: some technical quirks and more traditional, occasionally frustrating tasks are mentioned. Overall solid to very good ratings with a tendency toward medium to higher difficulty.
WeaknessesSome elements no longer feel fully up to date, partly rather simple and mechanical. There were occasional technical hiccups and tasks that frustrated more than they challenged. For some experienced teams, only second place in comparison at the location.
StrengthsHighly detailed, cohesive ambiance with fitting light and sound. Strong opening and a flow that lets teams work in parallel. The game master is attentive and helpful without spoiling.
SecurityNo reports of safety issues; the briefing seems structured and professional. No further safety details were mentioned in the reviews.
Level of fearNot scary, more mystical and fairytale-like—well suited for younger or more sensitive players. No jump scares or horror are mentioned.
Actors' gameThe game master is described as very friendly, present, and precisely helpful. The introduction and guidance clearly contribute to the positive experience without diminishing the puzzle fun.
Quality of riddlesMostly fair, well-solvable tasks with solid variety and some nice aha moments; parts can be tackled in parallel. The style is more classic and mechanical, with occasional frustration. Overall coherent if you enjoy traditional puzzles.
PlotYou help the ancient Benedictus find three magical crystals for his elixir of life while his workshop turns against him. The alchemy theme carries the game, with the opening standing out positively.
Difficulty levelMedium challenge with good flow; beginners manage fine, intermediate players stay engaged. Very experienced groups might find it classic and a bit tame in places.

We played The Alchemist as the second of three rooms on site. Great introduction, excellent gamemastering, and a lovingly designed setting; some puzzles could be solved in parallel so nobody was idle. In our ranking here it takes second place - still clearly recommended.
