The Last Supper

A harsh winter in the 1950s — only the occasional traveler makes it through the blizzard to the peaceful wine village of Brodenbach. The Moselle is frozen, the paths are snowed over, and only the coach brings people provisions and firewood. Just before nightfall a guest knocks on vintner Willi’s inn door. Ferdinand Pichler, a gastronomic critic from Vienna, asks for a bed and something to eat. Unaware of which famous grumbler he’s inviting into his taproom, Willi stokes the stove and serves his late guest a hearty stew. Moments later Pichler collapses, lifeless. Dead! Has someone murdered the kitchen critic? Was there poison involved? Is Willi part of a plot? And what role does the houseman Alfons play?
